Hi, I’m Rob Baker.
Your weekly host.

Passionate home cook and former chef, Rob Baker-Gall is the multi-award-winning cake artist, baker, blogger and YouTube creator behind Mr Baker’s Cakes, as well as maintaining a busy career as a primary school teacher.

For as long as he can remember, Rob has loved being in the kitchen and, in fact, some of his earliest memories are of learning to bake alongside his grandmother – the original Mrs Baker - and her trusty Kenwood Chef, of course. A truly inspiring figure, she ensured that his childhood was filled with a whole array of homemade birthday cakes, Christmas cakes, traditional puddings, homemade jams and even more besides.

Encouraged to explore his love of food and cooking from a young age, it wasn’t until his grandmother passed away that Rob was inspired to take up her mantle, ensuring that all of his family’s celebrations continued to be filled with tasty homemade cakes and bakes. And naturally, when Rob started to get serious about his own baking, there was only one brand he could look to to support him on his journey.

For over ten years, alongside his career as a primary school teacher, Rob continued to develop his skills in the kitchen, providing occasion cakes and bakes for family events, including birthdays, weddings, christenings, but it wasn’t until he entered – and won – a local baking competition back in 2014 that he stumbled on to the professional scene. What followed were a whirlwind few years of competing in international cake competitions, demonstrating at events across the UK and Europe, invitations to create larger-than-life centrepiece cakes for both the private sector and public events, a scattering of television appearances and a whole host of press coverage… all culminating in the creation of Rob’s internationally recognised blog and more recently his YouTube channel, where he regularly publishes recipes, cake decorating tutorials and a whole variety of other baking-related content.

In spite of his success in the baking world, Rob continues to work as a primary school teacher and, inspired by his early memories of baking alongside his grandmother, he is passionate about encouraging and supporting his pupils (and his nieces, nephews and godchildren) to discover their own love of cooking and baking, regularly looking for opportunities to bring this into the classroom – or even, on occasion, take the classroom to a real, working bakery!

During the nationwide pandemic lockdowns and school closures, Rob continued to encourage youngsters to get into the kitchen, with the launch of his online YouTube series, Mr Baker’s Cake School. Throughout this period, he uploaded a variety of tasty, child-friendly cooking and baking demonstrations, inspiring families all over the country to get into the kitchen.

His approachable and inspiring teaching style ensure that anyone, regardless of their experience or confidence level, can achieve results that they can be proud of and he loved seeing the results of his viewers’ efforts each week.

Inspired by this experience, Rob is thrilled to now be teaming up with Kenwood – who continue to remain at the very heart of his own cooking and baking journey – to encourage a whole new generation of young cooks and bakers to discover their own love of food.
